Day one of AJRA state finals

Day one of the Alabama Junior Rodeo Association state finals at Covington Center Arena is in the books, and numerous riders put themselves in position to take home a buckle.

 

 

 

In the 6-8 grade breakaway event, four riders managed to rope a steer. Anna Kate Norton pulled in the day’s top time at 2.98 seconds. Josie Hussey had the second best time of the day at 3.53 seconds. Jordyn Bennett is in third place with a time of 3.69 seconds, and Kade Kolmetz is sitting in fourth with a time of 5.48 seconds.

 

 

 

Out of the four riders in the K-5 grade breakaway, Syndey Poole was the only one to successfully rope a steer, and came in with the top time of 15.77 seconds.

 

 

 

Garrett Guillot is in the top spot of the 6-8 grade calf roping with a time of 16 seconds. Christopher Martin is sitting in second with a time of 29.92 seconds, and Kade Kolmetz is in third with a time of 36.37 seconds.

 

 

 

In 6-8 grade pole bending, Norton sits atop the leader board with a time of 22.409 seconds. Bennett is in second place with a time of 22.461 seconds, and Hussey is in third with a time of 22.715 seconds. Jaden Musgrove holds on to the eighth spot with a time of 23.459 seconds, and Grace Schultz is in 10th with a time of 23.923seconds.

 

 

 

Anna Grizzle holds the top spot in the K-5 grade pole bending with a time of 22.795 seconds. Sydney Poole is second with a time of 23.291 seconds, and Hailey Donald is in third with a time of 23.456 seconds. Mary Beth Alexander is in 10th with a time of 34.596 seconds.

 

 

 

The 6-8 grade team roping contest is still all tied up, as no teams were successful in roping both ends of the steer.

 

 

 

In the 6-8 grade chute dogging, Dalton Hopper sits in the top spot with a time of 9.56 seconds. Drake Dylan is in second with a time of 9.75 seconds, and Cade Smith sits in third with a time of 13.44 seconds.

 

 

 

Caitlin Tisdale is currently leading the 6-8 grade girls goat tying with a lighting fast time of 8.57 seconds. Bayley Bass is in second with a time of 12.02 seconds, and Hussey rounds out the top three with a time of 12.24 seconds. Musgrove is currently in eighth place with a time of 14.60, and Vivien Otero finished with a time of 18.49 seconds.

 

 

 

In the K-5 grade girls goat tying, Grizzle holds the top spot with a time of 11.80 seconds. Sydney Poole is in second with a time of 14.64 seconds, and third place is Alexis Miles with a time of 15.17 seconds.

 

 

 

Martin tops the boys 6-8 grade goat tying with a time of 17.10 seconds. Kade Kolmetz is second with a time of 18.44 seconds, and Grey Wells is in third with a time of 20.38 seconds.

 

 

 

In the K-5 boys goat tying brother Drew and Hunter Cluckey are first and second. Drew is first with a time of 15.14 seconds, and Hunter second with a time of 37.35 seconds.

 

 

 

Norton leads the 6-8 grade barrel racing with a time of 16.372 seconds. Nikayla Brill is in second with a time of 16.438 seconds, and Madison Hayek is in third with a time of 16.566 seconds. Tisdale is in fifth place with a time of 16.850 seconds. Schulz is in sixth place with a time of 17.436 seconds. Musgrove is sitting in 11th with a time of 19.667 seconds. Vivien Otero is in 12th with a time of 20.616 seconds, and Mady-Kate Tolbert is in 17th with a time of 27.121 seconds, after being assessed with a 10-second penalty.

 

 

 

In the K-5 grade barrel racing, S. Poole is in first place with a time of 16.383 seconds. Luci Kirkland is in second with a time of 16.392 seconds, and Ty Fleming is in third with a time of 17.155 seconds. Alexander is in ninth with a time of 25.027 seconds.

 

 

 

The two riders in the K-5 grade Jr. steer riding competition were unable to complete an 8-second ride, and both remain tied heading into the second day.

 

 

 

Kade Money is in first place in the 6-8 grade Jr. bull riding event with a score of 63. Jon Christopher Bryan just missed making the 8-second ride needed for a score.

 

 

 

Events for today’s second round action begin with an acknowledgement of the 8th grade cowboys and cowgirls who are in their final ARJA rodeo at 9:45 a.m.
