Andalusia 12Us finish 2nd in Atmore

Andalusia’s 12-and-under Cal Ripken All-Stars bounced back from an opening loss to advance to the championship round of the District 7 tournament, before falling to host Atmore in the final game Sunday afternoon.

Andalusia defeated Atmore 6-5 in an early game Sunday, giving Atmore its first loss of the tournament and setting up a winner-takes-all final game. However, Andalusia came up short in that final game, falling by a 7-0 score to finish in second place.

Other tournament scores were:

• Friday — Monroe County 16, Andalusia 14

• Friday — Atmore 8, Flomaton 7

• Saturday — Atmore 5, Monroe County 2

• Saturday — Andalusia 6, Flomaton 2 (Flomaton eliminated)

• Saturday — Andalusia 14, Monroe County 4 (Monroe County eliminated)

 

Championship Game 2: Atmore 7, Andalusia 0

Atmore scored four runs in the second and three runs in the fifth, on the way to a 7-0 victory in the deciding game Sunday.

Andalusia managed four hits off Atmore’s pitchers.

 

Championship Game 1: Andalusia 6, Atmore 5

Andalusia and Atmore played a back-and-forth game early Sunday afternoon, with Andalusia eventually prevailing by a single run to stay alive in the District 7 tournament.

Atmore scored two runs in the top of the first and the top of the fourth, but Andalusia responded each time to keep the game tied. Andalusia moved ahead 6-4 after scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Down to its last three outs, Atmore staged a rally, scoring one run in the top of the sixth and putting runners on first and third with one out. However, the next batter hit a pop-up on the infield, and the runner on first base was doubled up to end the game.

Noah Gooden scored two runs for Andalusia, and Michael Jordan, Caleb McLeod, Z-Mo Ridgeway and Chase Harper scored one run each.

 

Andalusia 14, Monroe County 4

Andalusia got revenge on Monroe County in a Saturday afternoon game, knocking out the same team that defeated Andalusia in its opener Friday evening.

Andalusia bolted out to an 11-0 lead after two innings and cruised from there.

Jordan scored three runs for Andalusia, and Caleb Blackston, McLeod, Brandon Langley and Harper scored two each. Gooden, Chad Long and Terrance Salter scored one run apiece.

 

Andalusia 6, Flomaton 2

Andalusia and Flomaton were tied 2-2 after one inning, but Andalusia added one run in the second, two in the third, and one in the fourth to earn a victory Saturday morning and eliminate Flomaton from the tournament.

McLeod and Jordan scored two runs, and Blackston and Jack Day each scored one.

 

Monroe County 16, Andalusia 14

Andalusia and Monroe County played a shootout in their opening game Friday evening, with Monroe County eventually prevailing by two runs.

Gooden scored three runs, and Blackston, Harper, McLeod and Ridgeway each scored twice. Langley, Jordan and Joseph Turner scored one run apiece.
