Fire broke out at the Opp Burger King after someone dropped a cigar in a flowerbed during the lunch hour.

Opp Fire Chief Cory Spurlin said the fire extended into the exterior wall near the drive-thru.

“We were able to pull the exterior wall and extinguish the fire with minimal damage to the C/D corner of the structure,” Spurlin said.

Employee evacuated the building and at least three fire trucks were on scene.

It took firefighters a little more than 30 minutes to extinguish the fire.

Charges could be filed if authorities can find out who dropped the cigar.

“We don’t know who the person is that discarded the cigar, but we are investigating it and charges could be filed,” Spurlin said.

Spurlin said it’s very dry outside and people should use caution when burning and smoking.

Those who must burn should follow the following recommendations:

• Do not leave a fire unattended until it is out;

• Have necessary equipment and personnel to control the fire; and

• Have a water supply on hand for smaller debris burns.
