What does the fourth of July mean to you? The Star-News asked several local kids to explain what they enjoy most about the Fourth, and what makes it special to them. Getting together with family, and watching fireworks were what most said they enjoyed about the fourth.

“We always have our family reunion around the fourth,” Bryson Powers, 12, said. “We get together and pop firecrackers and eat watermelon. Eating

watermelon is my favorite part.”

10-year-old Cameron Johnson said that the Fourth of July just makes him happy.

“I like to party and pop firecrackers,” Cameron Johnson said. “But it isn’t about popping firecrackers or partying, it’s about celebrating Independence Day.”

Ava Comer, age 6, said her favorite part was celebrating with family.

“I like to have fun and watch fireworks,” Comer said. “I just want to have a good day, and have fun cooking out with my family.”

Watching a firework show was also something 6-year-old Amerra McMullin said she is looking forward too.

“My favorite part is watching fireworks,” McMullin said. “Also hanging out with family and friends is fun.”

Tanailah Johnson, age 9, was another excited about the fireworks.

“My family and friends always get together to eat and shot fireworks for the fourth,” Tanailah Johnson said.
