There will be fireworks in Andalusia

There will be fireworks, as soon as a suitable date can be decided upon.

Mayor Earl Johnson told council members Tuesday night that canceling Fourth of July fireworks this past weekend was his call.

He said a storm that moved into the area, and a second storm that appeared to be right behind it on the radar, led him to believe it was the right thing to do.

“The call was mine and I made it,” he said. “We will always err on the side of caution. It wasn’t 10 days before that lightning killed two people in Opp. That stuff does not play, and you don’t get a second chance.”

Johnson said the contract includes a clause that states the city won’t lose its money, but that the fireworks must be rescheduled at a time that must be agreed upon by the vendor.
