Florala’s Lily Ritzel will represent the South in AHSAA’s 2015 North/South softball All-Star game Tuesday night in Montgomery.

Since her eighth grade season, Ritzel has be a standout member of the Lady Wildcats softball team.

During Ritzel’s freshman and sophomore seasons, she helped lead the Lady Wildcats into the Regional Tournament in Gulf Shores.

The Lady Wildcats barely missed making the Regional tournament this past season.

Ritzel was a junior this past season, and was one of Florala’s top pitchers.

“Lily is a very disciplined player and a hard worker,” Florala head coach Pat Maddox said. “She isn’t as vocal of a leader as some, but she leads by example. She has been a pleasure to coach.”

In a game against eventual state champions Brantley, Ritzel threw 11 innings and struck out 22 batters.

It wasn’t the first time that Ritzel had carved up 20 plus batters, in her sophomore season Ritzel had 21 strikeouts in a game. She also had seven stolen bases her sophomore season.

Ritzel doesn’t worry about the things that could happen, and her favorite quote shows that.

“Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.”

Ritzel’s fondness of the quote may be because she is usually the one causing people to strikeout.

“I’m really honored to be the one selected to play in this All-Star game,” Ritzel said. “I was injured back in mid-season and I’m not yet cleared to play, but it means a great deal to be able to represent my school and town.”
