Lady Bulldogs prep for volleyball season

The Andalusia High School volleyball team will look to build of the success of the 2014 season as they prepare for the 2015 season beginning in just a few weeks.

“Our girls have done a great job on their communication skills this summer,” head coach Angie Grimes said. “We have four very good seniors that bring with them a lot of experience and great leadership, and that is going be our strong suit this year.”

Andalusia’s first match of the season will be against T.R. Miller at home on Aug. 28 at 4 p.m. for a varsity and junior varsity match up.

The next day, Aug. 29, the varsity Lady Bulldogs will take a short trip to Kinston for the Kinston Tournament.

On Aug. 31, the Lady Bulldogs will travel back to Kinston for junior high, junior varsity and varsity matches.

The Lady Bulldogs will stay on the road on Sept. 3, when they travel to Headland for the first area match of the season. The varsity and junior varsity will be in action against Headland.

There will be a bit of a break for the varsity squad, whose next match up is in Opp on Sept. 15. The junior high and junior varsity teams will also go up against the Lady Bobcats.

Then on Sept. 17, the Lady Bulldogs will travel to Geneva for a varsity and junior varsity match.

They Lady Bulldogs finally return home on Sept. 21, when the Kinston Lady Bulldogs come to town for junior high, junior varsity and varsity match ups. The Kinston match will be the first of a four-game home stretch for Andalusia.

On Sept. 24 Straughn and Ashford will come to Andalusia for a pair of area varsity contests.

The Lady Bulldogs will remain at home for a doubleheader against Pleasant Home and Geneva on Sept. 29., with all three Andalusia squads joining in on the action.

Andalusia will hit the road on Oct. 1 for a quick trip to Straughn where they will take on Straughn and Headland in an area doubleheader.

Andalusia’s final regular season home game will come on Oct. 6 when the take Florala and a junior high and a varsity contest.

On Oct. 8, the Lady Bulldogs will get their second crack at T.R. Miller when they travel to Brewton for a match up with the Lady Tigers and Monroe County.

The final regular season match of the year will be on Oct. 15, when the Lady Bulldogs travel to Pleasant Home for a contest with the Lady Eagles.

“Fundamentally, we have looked great this summer,” Grimes said. “The girls have really worked hard. Our goal every season is to make the playoffs and make a deep run. If we can continue to develop and grow as a team, that goal can be accomplished. Even though we have had great communication, it can always improve more.”

The Lady Bulldogs will play nine home games this season, and Grimes wants as many people as possible to come out and support them this season.

“We want people to come out and get excited about Andalusia volleyball,” Grimes said. “They will be surprised. This is a great group of girls that really click as a team. They respond well on the court.”
