Opp High School experienced a record-setting graduation rate last school year, officials announced this week.
“As Opp High School begins the 2015-2016 school year, there has been time taken to analyze last year’s data in order to see where there has been growth, and where refinement is still needed,” OHS Principal Ron Snell said. “One of the clear goals for any school system is to get as many of its students to graduate as possible.”
Last year, the OHS graduation rate hit 90 percent.
“This represents an all-time high for Opp,” Snell said.
Snell said just five years ago, the rate was less than 75 percent.
For the 2010-2011 school year, the graduation rate was 75 percent.
Snell became principal in 2012.
But the system has worked to improve those rates for the last five years.
“The school believes that the increased rate comes from combining multiple opportunities to master critical material, building good relationships with students, and making sure kids have quality programs to be involved,” Snell said.
In December, it was announced that the high school was in the top 10 in the state in terms of percentage of students graduating high school.
