The Florala City Council on Monday heard from the owner of the Zingaretti building, which it previously abated after hearing reports of bricks falling from the structure.

The building is located on the corner of 5th St. and 5th Ave. The owner said he has been working on the property and needs additional time.

He said he has not been able to complete the new roof because of rain.

“I am working diligently,” he said. “It may be a public nuisance, but it’s not a safety hazard.”

In other business, the council:

• Renewed its contract with RDS for the collection of sales and use taxes; rental and lease taxes; and lodging taxes.

• Appointed Catherine Jenkins to the South Central Alabama Mental Health Board.

• Nominated Jimmy Waldrop to the county Board of Equalization.
