The South Alabama Regional Airport Authority met in closed session for more than an hour Tuesday to discuss possible projects for facilities at the airport.

Ronnie Kearns of the Kearns Group, which currently is working on a C130 in the airport’s twin hangars, gave authority members a presentation listed as “related to the twin hangars.”

A second agenda item about SARA’s nosedock hangar also was discussed in closed session. Kearns previously has asked for a lease agreement for that facility.

Andalusia Mayor Earl Johnson, Commission Chairman Bill Godwin and Opp Mayor John Bartholomew were not allowed to remain in the closed session, despite a request from Godwin that they be allowed to do so.

The county and two municipalities are in the process of refinancing portions of SARA’s debt, and the authority has agreed that they can have input into any decisions to lease airport facilities.
