Three days on the job and new Revenue Commissioner Chuck Patterson is already loving it.
Patterson took office on Sept. 21, but actually started to work on Tuesday.
“I’ve been able to come in over the past six months and work with Mrs. Janice Hart,” he said.
Hart retired Monday after more than two decades in the post.
“I’ve also been able to go online and keep up with what is going on,” he said.
Patterson, a Covington County native, said his heart is in the county and his primary goal is making it as convenient as possible for taxpayers.
“This is your office,” he said. “I’m just a representative of the people.”
Patterson earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of North Alabama, while he played four years of college football.
He has 34 years of experience in the areas of business management, corporate accounting and tax accounting.
He has also completed the Appraisal Principles and Procedures course for the state of Alabama.
Patterson said once he learns the ropes, he plans to explore the options for more automation.
“I want to be as cost efficient as possible,” he said. “I want to be conservative with the taxpayers’ money.”
Patterson said he looks forward to interacting with the public.
