The Straughn Tigers (1-3, 1-2) will look to get back into the win column on Friday night when the travel north to take on the Beauregard Hornets (3-0, 2-0) in a non-region contest.
Beauregard has blistered its opponents to start the 2015 season with a 68-33 win over Dadeville in the season opener and then rolled up region-wins of 42-27 and 55-6 over Sylacauga and Talladega, respectively.
The Tigers will be hoping to repeat last season’s success over Beauregard, after starting 1-3 in 2015 including a 52-18 defeat last week at the hands of region-foe Trinity.
Last season, the Tigers blasted the 5A Hornets at home with a final score of 28-6, which gave Beauregard its first loss of the 2014 season.
Beauregard returns several players from that 2014 team, including senior receiver Heath Senn.
After facing Straughn last season, the Hornets suffered an injury at the quarterback position, but Quay Wright stepped in for the Hornets and completed 33-of-60 passes for 538 yards and six touchdowns. Wright returns this season as the Hornets’ starting quarterback.
With half the season remaining, the Tigers still have shot at making the playoffs and will need to win at least three of their final four region games for that to happen.
Remaining on the region schedule for Straughn is Montgomery Catholic (2-3, 1-2), Ashford (3-2, 2-1), Bullock County (1-3, 0-3) and Andalusia (4-1, 3-0).
