Opp Police got thorough evidence Thursday.

The Opp Police Department Thursday afternoon recovered stolen property at a residence on Third Street.

“The property was taken during the early morning hours, where a person or person removed items from vehicles and utility sheds on the West side of town,” Police Chief Mike McDonald said. “One suspect has been detained for investigation at this time.”

No other information on the property was available when the Star-News went to press, but officials said they have been investigating several thefts in the west Opp area and that suspects had been entering cars in driveways and yards.

“We ask that you do the following things that will assist us in apprehending the criminal or criminals that are involved in this activity as well as prevent future thefts,” McDonald said.

• Remove your valuables from your vehicle when you return home;

• Lock your vehicle doors whenever you park your vehicle;

• Secure lawnmowers and yard equipment.

• Lock your utility building;

• Immediately report any suspicious activity to the Opp Police Department at 493-4511 or dial 911.

“The last individuals that were involved in this type of activity that OPD arrested were committing break ins and thefts late at night through the early morning hours.,” McDonald said. “Their activity was located throughout the City of Opp. The current activity is in the Maude Avenue, Rosalie Street, Virginia Avenue and surrounding areas. We believe that this activity is occurring during the night and early morning hours.”
