It should be a beautiful day to walk, and there are two events designed to raise awareness of and funds for good causes.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul will host its annual “Walk for the Poor,” a two-mile walk beginning at Christ the King Catholic Church in Andalusia today, Sat., Sept. 26. All money raised from the walk will go back to the poor. The event begins at 7 a.m.

The Fourth Annual Lower Alabama Walk to End Alzheimer’s is set for today, Sat., Sept. 26, at Frank Jackson State Park in Opp. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the ceremony at 9 and the two-mile walk at 9:30 a.m.

The walk is along beautiful nature trails that have been blazed by the Opp Trailmasters working in conjunction with the Alabama State Parks. But for millions of people suffering with Alzheimer’s, a cure will not be soon enough.
