A man attempting to leave the scene of an accident was jailed for driving under the influence.

According to Opp Police Chief Mike McDonald, units were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash with injuries at the intersection of Hwy. 299 and the Florala Highway.

“As officers were attending to the injured parties, one of the officers observed a 2015 GMC Sierra pickup truck driving away from the scene of the accident northbound in the southbound lane of Hwy. 299,” McDonald said. “The officer pursued the vehicle and upon stopping the vehicle, made contact with the lone occupant of the vehicle, Clinton L. Watson, age 49, of Enterprise.”

McDonald said that as a result of the officer’s investigation, Watson was arrested for DUI.

He was jailed in the Opp municipal jail.

The investigation continues and other charges may be forthcoming.
