WeAreToonz invented the Nae Nae, and on Oct. 8, 2013, they released a YouTube video instructing people how to do the dance. Performed to a catchy rap tune, the dance is a favorite with kids, and local law enforcement officers learned it over the past three weeks as a way to connect with youngsters during National Night Out. The event is designed to promote community awareness, safety and to lead the city in the fight against crime. There were a number of activities for kids, from ring toss to karaoke to bouncy houses to pizza.

And then, there was the Nae-Nae.
