Bethel A.M.E. Church will hold its annual Christian walkathon in Kirkpatrick Park this Saturday.

Church member Annie Glover said the event’s purpose is two-fold.

“We encourage people to get out and walk for health reasons, mainly,” she said. “But it’s also to concentrate on you spiritual walk.”

The event opens with a devotional and a prayer, she said. Participants are encouraged to walk five laps, which is approximately two miles.

The event generally draws about 20 people.

The event begins at 8:30 a.m. , and there is a $15 fee for participation, which includes a sack lunch. The deadline to register is Fri., Oct. 9.
