The South Alabama Regional Airport Authority authorized $7,500 in repairs, and learned of additional maintenance issues Monday.

SARA co-administrator Jed Blackwell said a water tank that is part of the fire suppression system for both Vector Aerospace and the twin hangars is leaking 2,000 gallons of water per day.

“We have a temporary fix, but it’s still leaking,” he said, adding that the valve on one of the tanks is broken. Replacement will cost $6,987, he said.

In addition, a gauge on the fire pump house needs to be replaced, he said. Together, the repairs will cost approximately $7,500.

Blackwell also said the cable on the door of one of the twin hangars broke when the door was opened on Oct. 7, and needs to be fixed. The authority’s lease agreement with DRS says it will be responsible for maintenance repairs, but the building was subleased at the time the damage occurred.

In other business, the board:

• authorized Chairman Gary Smith to negotiate a settlement agreement in pending litigation with Diamond Concrete, related to the floor of the twin hangar built in 2005. The board took the action after being updated by its attorney in closed session.

• approved an AIP pre-application to the Federal Aviation Administration, which funds the airport $150,000 each year. Co-administrator Misty Jones said the money will be used to complete the airport’s perimeter fencing.
