Northey announces bid for District 1 seat

District 1 County Commissioner Kenneth Northey has announced his candidacy for re-election. Northey is seeking the Republican nomination for District 1.

Northey said in his current term, he is proud to have been a part of developing a plan to utilize current revenue for a soon-to-be-completed women’s addition to the jail. He pushed to make all county meetings available for live web streaming through YouTube to provide more transparency. He also helped implement an emplo-yee pay plan, and is currently in the process of updating the county’s computer system.

“It has been an honor serving the people of Covington County the past three years, and I am asking for everyone’s support and vote in the upcoming March election,” he said.

“If re-elected, I will continue to listen to the voices of Covington County and to run the county’s business with the taxpayer’s best interest in mind.”

Northey operates a poultry and cattle farm. He is a member of the Alabama Poultry and Egg Association and a board member of the Covington County Cattlemen’s Association and president of the the Covington County Farmer’s Federation.

Northey and his wife, Kim, a rural mail carrier, have five children and five grandchildren.

Alabama’s party primaries are set for Tues., March 1. Qualifying ends on Fri., Nov. 6
