Local student safe in France

Andalusia native John David Thompson is among the six University of Alabama students currently studying in France, all of whom were reported safe last night.

Paris was gripped by a wave of shootings, bombings and hostage taking Friday which prompted officials to close the country’s borders. More than 150 people were reported dead.

UA spokesman Chris Bryant said officials they have been in touch with all six Alabama and that they are safe.

Thompson, the son of John and Dawn Thompson, also marked himself “safe” on social media. He is majoring in political science and French.
