Christian concert to cost $60K

Christian artist Chris Tomlin will headline Saturday’s Rattlesnake Rodeo in 2016.

The Opp City Council approved a $50,000 contract for Tomlin to play a 60-90 minute set.

The council also OK’d a $3,500 contract with Tim Timmons for a 30-45 minute set; $4,500 contract with Ellie Holcomb for a 30-45 minute set; and a $2,000 contract with 3for3 for a 30-40 minute set.

Tomlin is famous for songs such as “How Great is Our God,” “Jesus Messiah,” “ Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone),” “Our God,” and “Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies).

He was awarded Male Vocalist of the Year at the 2006, 2007 and 2008 GMA Dove Awards, and a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album in 2012.

3for3 is dubbed a refreshing new and effervescent sound from Nashville, Tenn.

Their new single “Halfway” has an assortment of electric sounds and harmonies that will draw listeners.

Halcomb is known for songs such as “The Broken Beautiful,” “My Portion and My Strength,” “I Want to Be Free,” “As Sure as the Sun.”

Timmons is famous for “Starts With Me,” “Cast My Cares,” “Awake Our Souls,” “Christ in Me” and “Let’s Be Beautiful.”

Mayor John Bartholomew said that the Covington Baptist Association has pledged to help defray some of the costs. The rodeo is set for April 1 and 2, 2016, at Channell-Lee Stadium.
