Powell is the son of former District 3 Commissioner T. Ivey Powell. He has strong ties to the community as a fourth-generation family farmer, rancher, forestry manager and local realtor.

Powell said he did not make the decision to run lightly.

“When I was approached to run, I knew I had to first spend time in prayer with my family,” he said. “I soon realized I had something to offer the community, knowing my prior service on the county commission and business experience could help Covington County prosper and continue to be a safe and happy place to live and raise a family. I am immensely grateful and humbled to have the opportunity to run for this position. I look forward to working with each of you to support our core conservative principles and values.”

Powell is an active member of Enon Baptist Church where he serves as deacon and Sunday School director. He is a director and previous president of the Alabama Cattleman’s Association. He also served as president of the Kiwanis Club of Andalusia and as a charter member of the Tri-Cities Kiwanis Club of Florala. In addition, he is a member of the Andalusia Chamber of Commerce, the Florala Chamber of Commerce, president of the Covington County Historical Society, a member of the Florala Historical Society and the Covington County Forestry Planning Commission.

He and has wife of more than 50 years, Barbara, have four sons, 11 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
