Opp pulls past Straughn

1211-spt-Ty-WhiteThe Opp Bobcats won their third-straight varsity boys’ basketball game with a 56-43 victory over the Straughn Tigers Thursday night in Opp.

The Tigers led early in the game, taking a six point lead after one, 16-10.

Opp continued to hang around by converting at the foul line, which was an area of the game they had struggled from recently.

The Bobcats made 10 free throws in the second quarter to put them in the lead at the break 28-25.

Opp came out and completely took over the game in the second half.

The Bobcats held Straughn to just three points in the entire third quarter while scoring 15.

After three Opp had taken a double-digit lead 43-28.

Straughn made a couple of quick baskets early in the fourth to pull to within 11, but never could cut the Opp lead to single digits.

The Bobcats went on to win the 56-43 for their first win over Straughn since the 2006-2007 season.

Orlando Lacey led the Bobcats with a season-high 18 points.  Reggie Thompson had 16 points and Donvontae Williams 12.

For Straughn, Jonathan Driver led all scorers with 20.

The two girls teams squared off with Opp coming off of its first win in 26 games.

Straughn led after the first quarter by six, 19-13.

The Lady Tigers extended it to nine at the half, 28-19.

Opp looked to get back into the game cutting it to six after a big 3-pointer by Frankie Vickrey to start the second half.

From there Straughn went on a 14-2 run to close the third to lead 42-24 after three.

The Lady Tigers did not let up in the fourth scoring 19 more points with a combination of starters and bench players.

Straughn finished off the game with a free throw for 61-33 win.

Derriunna Gantt led Straughn with 14 points, while Breanna White had 12 to lead Opp.
