After falling behind by nearly 20 points, the Straughn Tigers never gave up but fell 68-51 to Georgiana Tuesday night in varsity boys’ basketball action in Straughn.

Georgiana came out firing and quickly built a double-digit lead, and by the end of the first held a 12-4 advantage.

Straughn struggled to get anything going on the stingy Panther defense, and at halftime, Straughn trailed 30-15.

At the end of the third, Georgiana was on top 45-27.

Straughn wasn’t ready to throw in the towel and came out strong in the fourth period, and opened the period with a 14-3 rally to cut the lead down to 48-41 with 3:22 left in the game, but couldn’t get any closer.

“We slowed down and played our type of basketball for about four minutes and got back in the game, but then we played their (Georgiana) game for the final four,” Straughn head coach Rusty Andrews said. “One thing I liked was that we never quit, we just have to learn to slow down and play our ball.”
