The Bobcats came into their first area contest of the season at 6-3 and riding a five-game winning streak. Opp was put to the test by the Jaguars of Hillcrest who are currently ranked 8th in class 3A.

The Bobcats came out firing, scoring 16 first quarter points. Senior Devontae Williams and junior Orlando Lacey put in 10 for Opp in the first eight minutes as the Bobcats led 16-10 after one. Williams and Lacey continued to pace the Bobcat offense in the second quarter. Opp totaled 14 in the quarter with both Williams and Lacey knocking in two free throws each to end the half breaking at 26-26 tie and giving the Bobcats a four point lead at the break.

Opp continued to lead in the third quarter. Lacey put up seven more points including a big three-pointer that gave the Bobcats a 10-point lead with three minutes to go. Hillcrest hit three from downtown in the quarter to stay within striking distance. As the third quarter came to a close, Opp was just one quarter away from a huge area win. The tide of the game turned in the fourth quarter. Hillcrest was down by eight halfway through the quarter before the Jaguars hit four three pointers in a row that saw them take the lead for the first time in the contest. The Jaguars led by as many as six down the stretch. Opp got to within three with just under a minute to go, but was unable to make a basket down the stretch as Hillcrest came back to steal a 61-56 win from the Bobcats.

Orlando Lacey had a huge night for the second game in a row pouring in 17 points. Seniors Ty’Keenan White and Devontae Williams scored 15 points each. The Bobcats will play Straughn in the first round of tonight’s Andalusia Invitational Tournament at 7 pm.
