What better season to practice the Bible’s command, “to give and it will be given to you?”

Cary Langley of Massey Automotive said he wanted to give back to the community who has helped his business thrive.

“I talked it over with my team and we decided see what organizations were available,” he said.

Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Chrissie Duffy said that Langley approached her about doing a toy drive to see where the need was.

“I reached out to Community Christmas and other programs and they had everything covered,” she said. “I talked to Lesa Syler at DHR and she said it would be appreciated.”

Langley and staff delivered two pickup trucks full of toys to DHR on Friday afternoon. Everything from dolls to bikes was purchased.

“We have everything for children ages 2 to 14 years old,” Langley said. “We just wanted to help the community. We know there are a lot of needy people here. We do business in the community and we like to give back.”

Langley said they plan to make the effort an annual event.

Natalie Pinson of DHR said the toys collected will go to the children who often fall through the cracks.

“What we are planning to do is give to children who are in child protective services,” Pinson said. “And someone’s house who just burned and they need help. We also will use the toys for families who work the jobs program we have at DHR.”

Pinson said the number of toys provided by Massey’s drive is unreal.
