Opp Police have arrested an Andalusia man on child sex abuse charges.

OPD opened an investigation after it was reported than an 18-year-old male had sexually abused a child under the age of 12 on several occasions.

“Upon completion of the investigation, the alleged suspect, Jared Eli Mullins, a resident of Andalusia, Ala., was arrested and charged with two counts of sexual abuse of a child under 12 years old.

Sex abuse of a child under the age of 12 is a class B felony.

If convicted, Mullins faces a sentence of not less than two years and not more than 20 years in prison for a class B felony. However, those convicted of sex crimes involving children will face no less than 10 years in prison.

Mullins was taken to the Covington County Jail with a bond set at $200,000.

This case remains under investigation by the OPD, Covington County District Attorney’s Office and the Alabama Department of Human Resources.

He was held on a $200,000 bond.
