Covington County Schools Superintendent Shannon Driver said Monday that Troy Stewart is still the Florala Wildcats basketball coach, despite rumors that he was fired by the principal during halftime of a basketball game Friday in Paxton, Fla.

Driver would not disclose any further details of the alleged incident. The Star-News attempted to contact Florala principal Brent Zessin about the incident, but messages and phone calls went unreturned.

Monday’s basketball games against Zion Chapel were cancelled “at the recommendation of the superintendent,” according to a Facebook post on the Florala Wildcats Basketball Program page.

Driver said more details may be available next week. The Star-News will update as new details become available.
