Rowena Bradley Perdue

A celebration of life was held for the late Rowena Bradley Perdue at New Pilgrim Baptist Church of River Falls, Ala., Nov. 20, 2015. God called her home to be with him Wed., Nov. 11, 2015, at 8:30 a.m. after a short battle of illness. Her final arrangements were entrusted to Kirk Funeral Chapel of Andalusia.

Rowena was a descendant of the Perdue, Bradley, and Freeney families. She was the fourth child born to the late James Marcus and Queenie Freeney Bradley and was married to the late Deacon Louie Mack Perdue. From this union four children were born Johnny, Doris Jean (deceased), Corene and Voncile. Her siblings John Calvin Bradley, Fred Bradley, Dorothy Mae Freeney, James Timothy Bradley and Jelena Robinson all preceded her in death.

Rowena grew up in the Bethlehem community and matriculated through historical Norahville School System of Covington County. She had a love for her family, church, and community. She began working in the church at an early age and served as a leader of many church and civil organizations for over 70 years.

Rowena is cherished with memories by her three children, two adopted daughters, six grandchildren, one adopted granddaughter, twelve great grandchildren, three adopted great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends alike who will miss her greatly. She truly exemplified love through all generations.

Her life was exemplified in the words found in 2 Timothy 4:7, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”

 

Susan Elaine Maddox Sanders

Ms. Susan Elaine Maddox Sanders, 56, of Elba, passed away Mon., Dec. 21, 2015, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wed., Dec. 23, 2015, at the Elba First Assembly of God Church. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 9 a.m. until time of services. The Rev. Dwight Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Elba with Keahey Funeral Home of Andalusia directing.

Survivors include two sons, Benjamin Sanders of Opp and Billy (Linda) Sanders of Elba; two daughters, Christina (Josue) Ferrufino of Houma, La., and Rebekah Ovalee Sanders of Elba; brothers, Donnie Maddox of Goodman, Ala., and Kenneth (Ruby) Maddox of Troy; a sister, Judy Bell of Elba; 12 grandchildren, Trenton, Leighanne, Breanna, Nevaeh, Zoe, Kendel, Marcos, Eliandro, Alex, Devin, Kevin, and Vivian; and a great-grandchild, Ryder.

She was preceded in death of a sister, Levis Turner.

 

Dorothy Brown Brooks

Ms. Dorothy Brown Brooks, age 90, passed away Dec. 19, 2015.

Ms. Brooks is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Lenzy Brooks, who passed away in September of 2014; her son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Elaine Brooks; and her son Mudge Brooks.

Funeral services for Ms. Brooks will be Sun., Dec. 27, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Olive Branch Church Cemetery, in Owassa, Ala., near Evergreen, with Dr. Michael Gravette officiating. The family will receive friends after the interment in the church fellowship hall.

Ms. Brooks is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Gravette (Dr. Michael) of Atlanta, Ga.; 97-year-old sister, Lula Brown McGraw of Gulfport, Miss.; grandson, Michael (Nichole) Gravette, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Michael “Mikey” Gravette III, Chase Gravette and Reagan Grace Gravette of Atlanta, Ga.; granddaughter, Tara (Jeremy) Vice; great-grandchildren, Wesley Brooks Vice, Mason Vice and Graham Vice of Birmingham, Ala.; grandchildren, Kylee Brooks (Jame) Shoemaker, Ryan Lenzy Brooks and Kevin (Amanda) Brooks, all of North Carolina.

 

Minnie Elizabeth Elmore Milhorn

Mrs. Minnie Elizabeth Elmore Milhorn, 77, of Andalusia, passed away Sun., Dec. 20, 2015, at her residence.

Funeral services were held Tues., Dec. 22, at Red Oak Baptist Church with Brother Eugene Meadows and Brother Dewayne Geohagan officiating. Interment will followed in the church cemetery.

She is survived by a very special nephew, Grady Elmore and his wife Christie of Laurel Hill, Fla.; her brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Carolyn Elmore of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister-in-law, Susan Elmore (Johnny) Dewrell of Andalusia; nieces and nephews, Richie (Angela) Lawson, Mark (Melissa) Elmore, Christopher (Lindsey) Elmore, Beverly (Dewayne) Geohagan, Amy (Shawn) Plumb, Ellen (Mike) Menendez; 17 great-nieces and nephews; and special friends, Landon Flint, Rebecca Kelly, Marline Smith, and Patricia Pippin.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Billy Milhorn; her parents, Grady and Rachel Elmore; two brothers, Edward Elmore, Anthony Elmore; and sister, Lucille Lawson.

Pallbearers will be Landon Fink, Anthony Elmore, Austin Elmore, Grayson Elmore, Mike Bess, Mike Cheshire, Royce Sightler, and Charlie Williams.

Jessie Frank Wiggins

Mr. Jessie Frank Wiggins, 83, of the Damascus community new Brewton, passed away Mon., Dec. 21, 2015, in the Andalusia Hospital.

Mr. Wiggins was a lifeline resident of the Damascus community and worked for the T. R. Miller Plywood Mill in Brewton.

A brief visitation will be held Wed., Dec. 23, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Foreman Funeral Home.

He is survived by his two children, Franklin (Sherry) Wiggins and Angie (Dale) Pifer; he also survived by four grandchildren, Kayla Bowers, Katy Wiggins, Missie Davis, and Russell Broussard; and one great-grandchild, Kerrady Davis.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Alford Wiggins of Brewton.
