The National Weather Service’s latest flood graphic shows Covington County among those which have a significant threat for flooding along rivers and streams, as well as for flash flooding.

Many rivers are currently or expected to reach minor flood stage, Covington County EMS director Susan Harris said. At present, there is moderate flooding occurring at the Styx River @ Elsanor and now major flooding is forecast on the Big Escambia Creek at Flomaton.

Coastal areas should be aware that dense fog is likely to develop tonight. Given the travel sensitivities with the holiday, we have erred on the side of caution and issued a dense fog advisory for tonight.

The weather service also is monitoring another storm system that looks to impact the region on Monday. Severe weather and additional heavy rainfall is possible.
