It was a little late for Christmas, but those residing in the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton must have thought they had their own “elf on a shelf” Saturday.
An Andalusia man was dressed as an elf when he was stopped for speeding in Flomaton, and escorted to the detention center on drug charges after officers discovered methamphetamine and synthetic marijuana inside his vehicle.
Cedrick Antwion Marshall, 27, 13174 Hatcher Ave., Andalusia, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance (meth), unlawful possession of a controlled substance (synthetic marijuana) and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to police reports, Flomaton Officer Jonathan Kelley clocked Marshall driving 66 mph in a 45 mph zone on Highway 31 and initiated a traffic stop at 3:38 p.m.
Kelley reported Marshall appeared “extremely nervous” when he approached the vehicle. Kelley also reported Marshall was dressed like an elf and told the officer hew was on his way to a party in Century.
Kelley reported seeing rolling papers in plain view and smelled “masking” odors inside the vehicle.
A K-9 unit from Castleberry was called to the scene and the dog alerted on Marshall’s vehicle.
Offices then discovered the meth, synthetic marijuana and digital scales.
