McCalman headed to state event Jan. 8

Elizabeth McCalman, 2016 Covington County Distinguished Young Woman, will participate in the upcoming DYW state program the week of Jan. 8 – 16.

McCalman, the daughter of David and Stacy McCalman, is a senior at Andalusia High School.

She is a majorette, a member of Peer Helpers, a City of Andalusia Ambassador, is president of Sub-Deb, and a member of Ignite Student Ministries, First Baptist Church, the AHS Concert Band, Anchor Club and Key Club.

She was selected to attend Harding University’s National Leadership Forum.

She is a member of the Andalusia Ballet’s Senior Company, and will perform en pointe for the talent competition.

She plans to enroll in Auburn University next fall, where she will pursue a career in medicine.

The state competition is set for Jan. 15 and 16 at Frazer United Methodist Church.

The week will begin on Jan. 8 for Alabama’s 2016 participants. Wesley and Katie Britt of Montgomery will be the host family for both McCalman and Morgan County DYW Carolina Davis.

Participants in Alabama’s 2016 program will compete for $41,00 in cash scholarships and more than $ million in college-granted scholarships, as well as the opportunity to represent the state as the Distinguished Young Woman of Alabama for 2016.

Founded in 1958, Distinguished Young Women is the largest and oldest national scholarship program for high school girls.
