The Ashford Yellow Jackets held the lead for most of the first half, but a third period surge from Andalusia lifted the Bulldogs to a 49-43 win in the first area match of the season Tuesday night in Andalusia.

B.J. Anderson was the first Bulldog to get points when he tied the game 2-2 with a long jumper early in the opening period.

Jaxon Rudolph then tied the game 3-3 with a free throw before Anderson gave the Bulldogs and early 5-3 lead with a pair of free throws.

The Yellow Jackets then went on a short run to push them to a 9-6 lead at the end of the first period.

Andalusia knotted the game up 9-9 when Zack Woods opened up the second period with a 3-pointer.

Alex Sheridan increased the Bulldog lead to 11-9 with a deep 2-pointer from the corner.

After the Yellow Jackets tied the game back up, Woods knocked to another 3-pointer to put the Bulldogs back on top.

Ashford went up by three, but Anderson knocked to a pair of free throws just before halftime to leave the Bulldogs trailing 19-18.

The Bulldogs came out on fire to start the third period with quick 3-pointers from Anderson and Sheridan to give Andalusia a 24-19 lead.

Sheridan and Anderson, with the help of Trevor Parker, had the Bulldogs on a 15-3 run to start the third period to give Andalusia a 38-27 lead heading into the final period.

Ashford opened the fourth period with a quick bucket, but Andalusia turned right around to score six-straight for a 44-29 lead with a little more than six minutes remaining in the game.

Ashford continued to battled back into the game, and made it 47-43 with 1:09 left in the contest.

Anderson completed another perfect trip to free throw line with 21 seconds left on the clock to give the Bulldogs a 49-43 win.

With the win the Bulldogs move to 1-0 in the area play and the Yellow Jackets fall to 0-1.

Anderson led the way for the Bulldogs with 19 points in the win, including a 12-for-13 effort at the charity stripe.

Sheridan finished the evening with 11 points and Woods added 8 points.

In B-team action, the Bulldogs knocked off the Yellow Jackets 55-49.

The Bulldogs led 33-18 at halftime and 45-30 at the end of the third period.

R.J. Drish led the Bulldogs with 15 points in the win.
