The University of Alabama’s Crimson Tide rolled to a 16th national championship Monday night with a 45-40 win over Clemson.

With the victory, the State of Alabama can once again claim it’s “The Capital of College Football.”
From 2009 to 2013 either Alabama or Auburn played for the National Championship, winning four of the five. With the Crimson Tide on top yet again, either Alabama or Auburn have won five of the last seven National Championships.  No other State has had such a dominance in the history of college football.
“This is yet another historic occasion for the State of Alabama’s sports heritage,” commented Scott Myers, Executive Director of the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. “College football has been a major fabric of this state’s history for over a century, bringing with it great pride and recognition,” said Myers. “This is one of those sports accomplishments that may never be duplicated.”

Another remarkable feat is since 2009 there have been four Heisman Trophy winners who have ties to the state. The Heisman Trophy winners include Mark Ingram 2009, Cam Newton 2010, Jameis Winston 2013 and Derrick Henry 2015. That brings the total number of Heisman Trophy Winners that have ties to this state to six. The other two being ASHOF Inductees Pat Sullivan (1971) and Vincent “Bo” Jackson in (1985).
