Bulldogs knock off Headland

The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs used overtime to knock off area opponent Headland 49-48 Tuesday night in Andalusia.

Headland came out of the gate strong and at the end of the first period the Lady Rams held a 13-9 lead.

Both teams continued to battle in the second period, and the Lady Rams held an 18-16 advantage at halftime.

In the third period, both teams accounted for 11 points and the Lady Rams still held a 2-point advantage.

Andalusia came roaring out in the fourth period and tied the game up 43-43 at the end of regulation.

The Lady Bulldogs took advantage of free throws in the overtime period to edge out a 49-48 victory over the Lady Rams.

Shay Thomas led the way for the Lady Bulldogs with 21 points in the victory.

“The girl that missed the free throw against Straughn, Taylor Walker, made a free throw with about 12 seconds left to give us the lead,” Andalusia head coach Brad Garner said. “Shay Thomas hit two free throws with four seconds in regulation that tied the game up. Big shots from those two girls. Alex Crittenden had a good offensive game too.”

In varsity boys’ action, the Bulldogs defeated Headland 52-38.

B.J. Anderson led the way for the Bulldogs with 18 points.

Trevor Parker and Micah Stone each finished with 13 points.
