According to Opp Police Chief Mike McDonald, at approximately 4:15 p.m., on Jan. 13, OPD was dispatched to the 100 block of Ruby Street in response to a suspicious circumstances call.

“A neighbor observed a truck along with people at their neighbor’s home and immediately notified the Opp Police Department,” McDonald said. “Upon arrival, officers observed the truck backed up to the back door of the residence.”

McDonald said that officers secured the exterior of the residence and made entry into the rear of the residence where they detained three individuals that were inside of the residence.

After an investigation, Joesph Brandon Mathews, 31, of Kinsey; and Kristene Linday Glass, 28, of Kinsey, were charged with burglary third degree and remanded to the Covington County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

“Concerned, observant citizens can and do make a difference,” McDonald said. “We appreciate the citizen that was involved in this case doing the right thing.”

Burglary third degree is a Class C felony, which is punishable by prison term from one year and one day to 10 years.
