For art lovers and those who want to get a grasp on the creative side of life, the Lower Alabama Art’s Coalition has a hefty schedule for 2016.

The kick things off, Sheila Rhea of The Gallery said that they will feature Jerry Johnson, art professor at the Troy University, with a mixed media presentation involving photography, analog drawing, digital formation, watercolor, graphite, ink and written mediations.

A Lunch with the Artist event also will be held.

“He will speak to us about the process of working in the analog world of art,” Rhea said.

Stephanie Moceri's photography will be on display.

Andalusia’s Margo Russell will have an exhibit on floral paintings celebrating mothers in May, Rhea said.

The annual juried art show will be held in June and the children’s art camp will be held in July.

In September, “Off the Wall Art” exhibit will be the highlight.

Liz Murdock’s oil paintings will grace the walls in October.

The Gallery will host a “Salute to Veterans” exhibit in November.

A local artists’ exhibit and Christmas Pop-up Shop will be held in December.

“On Thurs., Jan. 21, at 11:30, we will host a brown bag lunch for the artists in our area,” Rhea said. “All artists are invited to bring their lunch and discuss how the LAAC could better serve the art community. It will also be a time for artists to interact and get to know each other better, share information and inspiration.”

Another new feature is Reid has agreed to be the LAAC’s first artist-in residence.

“Liz will be at The Gallery on Fridays working on paintings,” Rhea said. “Folks are encouraged to come by and see an artist at work. Call The Gallery to be sure of times.”

Additionally, Cathy Powell has moved her children’s art classes to The Gallery.

“These classes will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m., for children ages kindergarten to sixth grade,” Rhea said.

Cost is $100 a month, and payable before the first of each month for four, one-hour lessons.
