Morgan currently is serving his first term as the council member in District 2.

Morgan said he is running on the platform of being a “uniter not a fighter.”

“I want to put Opp back where it was 10 years ago,” he said. “I want to bring more businesses to Opp, and I want to see our schools and our city work together better.”

Morgan said he wants to focus on bringing industry back to Opp.

“There is no reason we can’t get a tier company here,” he said. “We have a spec building and we have the workforce. I don’t have a problem working to get those businesses here and I don’t have a problem working with community leaders to help make that happen.”

If elected, Morgan said he would ensure every councilmember is considered in the decision making process.

During his tenure on the council, Morgan has fought against the city’s abatement tactics.

“I have no problem cleaning up property,” he said. “The problem I have is going in on private property and taking what they have worked all their lives for.”

Morgan and his wife, Judy, have three children – Tommy, Tina and Tracy – and have six grandchildren.

Municipal elections will be held in August.
