Employees at Security Finance have taken a homeless man under their wings and are asking the public to embrace a fellow Andalusian to help him get back on his feet.

Vickie Johnston Goodson of Security Finance said Friday that Mr. Willie Laster, 72, has been homeless for at least two weeks.

“We have found him a place in the apartments behind the hospital,” she said. “We aren’t 100 percent sure how much money he will need to get started, but we estimate it to be between $600 and $800.”

Goodson said that they have Mr. Willie a week’s stay at the Sunset Inn so he doesn’t have to sleep outside in the cold weather.

“He came in Monday or Tuesday of last week,” she said. “It was the night it got down in the 20s. He was scared he would freeze to death, so he reached out to us.”

Goodson said they have known Mr. Willie for years as he has been a customer of theirs.

“We just met him because of what we do,” he said. “He’s been a customer for years. We’ve adopted him. He’s our grandpa.”

Goodson said they are asking the community to help get Mr. Willie in his home.

Anyone who wishes to make a donation to help Mr. Willie can stop by Security Finance, which is located next to Little Caesars.
