Deadline to register for primary Feb. 12

Time is running out for Covington County residents not already registered to vote in the upcoming primary elections on March 1.

The registration process must be completed by Fri., Feb. 12, at the Covington County Board of Registrars’ office, located in the county administration building.

Registrar Virginia Merritt said forms postmarked by Feb. 13, will also be accepted.

Forms are also available at places such as the probate judge’s office, the public library, the department of human resources and the health department.

Those who wish to register to vote need an Alabama driver’s license number or the last four digits of their Social Security Number, as well as personal information such as address, phone number and date of birth.

To register to vote:

• You must be a citizen of the United States;

• You must live in the State of Alabama;

• You must be a least 18 years of age on or before election day;

• You cannot be barred from voting by reason of disqualifying felony conviction; and,

• You cannot have been judged “mentally incompetent” in a court law.

You will be required to present valid photo identification when you vote at your polling place or by absentee ballot, unless exempted by law.
