Jeff McClure has announced his intention to move to Andalusia and run for the mayor.
McClure attempted to make the announcement at the First National Bank building and Andala parking lot prior to an 11:30 a.m. downtown redevelopment announcement in the Andala buidling.
McClure was asked to leave the Andala parking lot and stood in front of the First National Bank building, in which he has an ownership interest.
Mc-Clure, who is currently a Texas resident, said he plans to establish residency as soon as possible.
“I may not rest my head here right now, but my roots are here,” he said.
In a handout presented to the media, he described himself as “a political outsider, private citizen and businessman.”
McClure said he’s running to restore transparency and integrity to the city.
“After watching from the sidelines for the past eight years, it is time that someone steps up to this mayor and demand accountability, transparency and consideration to every citizen, city employee, taxpayer and local business owner,” McClure said. “I want to bring back integrity, transparency and let the city be an open book. I will make a commitment to follow through.”
The Code of Alabama requires candidates for mayor to be a resident of the municipality, registered to vote, and must reside in the municipality throughout the term of office.
