10th annual Cancer Freeze is Saturday

It might not be freezing Saturday, but it will be cool for this year’s 10th annual Cancer Freeze in Florala.
The fundraising event was established in 2007 by Caleb Davidson in memory of family and friends who had passed away with cancer.
Proceeds will be split among beneficiaries – Brandy Barger, Marie Thames, Kellen Findley Suzanne Grissett, and the family of Jeffery Biggs.
Temperatures are expected to be around 57 degrees on Saturday.
“We are beyond excited to see what God is going to do at Cancer Freeze 2016, where we will be celebrating 10 amazing years,” said Co-Founder Jennifer Davidson. “To have our past recipients come back and be in attendance with us is always so refreshing. To see new faces that come in support of the current recipients is always exciting for us to see the look on the faces and hear their stories after the day is over.”
Davidson said they are praying for sunshine, and a large turnout in support of the five families.
There is currently a 20 percent chance of showers.
Today is the last day to sign up online for the 5K.
“To see the numerous runners/walkers, the cars for the car show, the kids with their painted faces and to hear their laughter as they come down the slide, or as they ride a pony for the first time ever, to watch the individuals brave the cold water, it’s all so overwhelming and too exciting to be able to properly explain,” Davidson said. “Cancer Freeze isn’t just another fundraiser, it’s a life-changing experience for not only our recipients, but all those in attendance.”
Saturday’s event will kick off at 7 a.m., with a bass tournament and pancake and sausage breakfast.
