3-year-old battling cancer

Disaster struck a local family already battling cancer this past weekend

John and Sabrina Findley, whose 3-year-old son, Kellen, is battling embryonal rhadomysosarcoma, lost their family home to fire over the weekend.

Family friend Christy Sasser said the family was in the process of remodeling their Rose Hill home.

Sasser said the family had been living with family and friends until the remodel was complete to ensure Kellen’s safety.

“If he were to step on a board and get a splinter, it could be potentially threatening to him,” she said.

Unfortunately, Sasser said the person the family hired to remodel the project left it unfinished.

Luckily several companies came in and helped friends and family finish the sheetrock, new floors, counter tops and more.

They also had put in central heating and air.

“The trim was finished around 6 p.m. on Saturday,” Sasser said. “The house caught on fire around midnight.”

Sasser said they lost everything except their clothes since they weren’t living at the house during the remodel.

Sasser has some fundraisers in the works and will have more details later this week.

In the meantime, the family has a benefit account at Wells Fargo.
