APD charges 18-year-old with murder

The Andalusia Police Department has arrested and 18-year-old and charged him with murder.
Chief Paul Hudson issued a statement Sunday afternoon in what was investigated as a “suspicious death” case.
Hudson said the investigation began Saturday, when the APD responded at 6:45 p.m. to an automobile accident with possible fatality on Dixon Street in Andalusia.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the deceased, Charles Taliaferro, 81, of Evergreen. Upon further investigation it was determined foul play was involved. Throughout a lengthy search and investigation, a suspect was taken into custody and arrested.
Investigator Brandon Averill arrested Diamond Dontai Crittenden, 18, of Andalusia, on Sunday and charged him with murder. Bond was set at $500,000.
Hudson thanked Investigators Brandon Averill and Sgt. Jody Scott, APD B and D Shift officers, the Covington County District Attorney’s Office, Covington County Sheriff’s Posse and all additional first responders. In addition, Chief Hudson would like to thank all who provided pertinent information that aided in the closure of this investigation.
