The APD has released few details about the case, and Hudson said investigators have not yet determined a motive. Diamond Dontai Crittenden, 18, of Andalusia, is charged in the death of Charles Taliaferro, aka “Charlie Boy,” 81, of Evergreen.

Hudson said the APD’s investigation  began Saturday, when the department responded at 6:45 p.m. to an automobile accident with possible fatality on Dixon Street in Andalusia.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the deceased, Taliaferro. Upon further investigation it was determined foul play was involved. Throughout a lengthy search and investigation, a suspect was taken into custody and arrested, he said.

Investigator Brandon Averill arrested Crittenden on Sunday and charged him with murder, Hudson said. Bond was set at $500,000.

Hudson thanked Investigators Brandon Averill and Sgt. Jody Scott, APD B and D Shift officers, the Covington County District Attorney’s Office, Covington County Sheriff’s Posse and all additional first responders. In addition, Chief Hudson would like to thank all who provided pertinent information that aided in the closure of this investigation.

It was the first murder in the City of Andalusia since 2001, Hudson said.
