Eric and Joni Johnson have big plans for Point A Park.

“We are actually going to convert the old boat ramps by the bridge and turn that into a veterans and civil servants retirees’ park,” Eric said. “They will be able to launch their boats for free.”

Also in the plans is a primitive campground.

“We are going to open up one of the parks across the street from the veteran’s park,” he said. “We’re going to burn all that stuff back and turn into a primitive campground, mainly for the Boy and Girl Scouts.”

Eric said they will also expand the main park.

“We’re going to add some spots, upgrade the sewer system, bathrooms and a new office,” he said.

The entire day-use park, where the swimming area is, will receive a face-lift, as well.

“The swimming area will be redone,” Eric said. “We’re going to move the playground that was in the RV park to the day-use park and that will double the size, and all the bathrooms will be redone; there are three different restrooms.”

Despite the renovations, Eric said the park is still open.

“There weren’t a lot of reservations, when we took over,” he said. “People can come on out, but they should that we are doing reservations.”

Plans are to have a large grand-opening at the day-use park with a band and a barbecue.

“We hope to have the projects completed sometime between March and April,” he said.

Eric said that they have a new website, www.pointapark.com, but those interested in making reservations can call 334-388-0342.
