Last Saturday morning was the start of the City of Andalusia’s Community Garden build. Mayor Earl Johnson has been interested in developing a community garden for some time. Finally, everything has come together from the interest shown by local citizens to the school allowing us to use their vacant field.

Several community volunteers showed up Saturday: Valarie & Patrick McCalman, Wendy & Michael Andrews, Anna Williams, Patty Ashworth and Shirley Dyess, to assist City employees; Cory Gilbert, Rick Hinson, Wendell Dyess and Barbara Tyler in building the first twelve of the raised garden beds that will be available for public use. The community garden, which will also feature fruit trees, herb gardens and a utility shed, is located next to the Andalusia Elementary School on Hwy. 29. Several local businesses/corporations are getting involved as sponsors. To find out more about this project call City Hall at 428-1127. Courtesy photo
