Jimmy and Nancy Shelton now have a home.

The couple was the recipient of the local Habitat for Humanity’s sixth build.

The location of the new home on Opp Avenue in Andalusia has a special meaning to the Sheltons – it’s the former home place of Jimmy’s mother.

At Sunday’s dedication, Habitat President Dale Pancake presented Jimmy with a spoon that would found on the site that belonged to his mother.

Jimmy deeded two lots to Habitat for Humanity.

The Sheltons, who are both deaf, were excited about their new home.

Pancake also presented the couple with a Bible from the organization.

Nancy Shelton signed “thank you” to Pancake.

Pancake said that the home has a unique feature in its door bell system.

It has a strobe light that flashes four times when someone rings the front door and twice for the side door.

“The goal of Habitat for Humanity is to provide decent, affordable housing,” he said.

There is a long list of volunteers and contributors to the project, Pancake said.

He thanked Wyatt Sasser for providing the lead on the home by bringing his construction crew to the site to help with the blitz.

The home has been a long time coming; the organization broke ground at the end of August.

Pancake thanked everyone who pitched into make the build possible as well as restaurant vendors who pitched in to feed the crews.

Pancake said the next build, which will be in Florala, will begin in June.
