Holmes, center, talks with current commissioners.

Moments after being determined the winner of the District 3 County Commission race, Tony Holmes said he wants to take a week off before getting to work.

“First, I’m just glad it’s over,” he said. “We are so tired. I want to take a week to do nothing, then get involved with the administration that’s there now and get started.”

Holmes, a political newcomer, received 53 percent of the votes cast in the race, while Glen Powell, a former commissioner, received 47 percent.

New commissioners will take office after the November General Election.

“Glen is an old friend,” Holmes said of his opponent. “I’ve been behind him in every race he’s ever won. “

Holmes said his priority is jobs.

“My whole thing is to bring some industry in to Covington County,” he said.

He also pledged to publish a phone number at which he could be reached.
