Voter turnout 46 percent; most support Trump

Fewer than half of the registered voters in Covington County cast ballots in Tuesday’s primary elections.

There were 10,721 (46.42 percent) of the county’s 23,093 registered voters who participated.

Only nine percent of those, or 965, voted in the Democratic primary.

In the presidential primary, Covington County voters supported Hillary Clinton (77 percent) and Bernie Sanders (19.71 percent).

On the Republican side, local voters supported Donald Trump (48.14 percent), Ted Cruz (18.52 percent), Marco Rubio (13.34 percent) and Ben Carson (13.32 percent).
